BOTAFOGO IN COMEBACK WIN OVER AVAI

Botafogo are back to winning ways in the Brazilian Serie A after the 2-1 comeback win over hosts Avai on Thursday night. Botafogo scored twice in the second half to turn the game on its head having trailed to the home team at the half-time interval.

Avai striker Guilherme Bissoli scored the first goal of the game from the penalty spot on 11 minutes. His goal gave hosts Avai an advantage at the end of the first 45 minutes.It took just four second half minutes for Botafogo to get back into the game thanks to the goal from Argentine defender Victor Cuesta. Botafogo made it two goals in seven minutes when Tiquinho gave the away team the lead for the first time in the game. The visitors thereafter held on to take the three points at stake.

Botafogo were on a four-game unbeaten run before the 3-1 league loss to Palmeiras at home on Tuesday. Palmeiras secured the three points at stake despite finished the game with ten men.

The previous Botafogo unbeaten run started on the back of the 1-0 league loss at home to Flamengo in August. The defeat to Flamengo was followed by the 3-1 away win over Fortaleza. Botafogo established a two-match unbeaten run with the goalless draw with America-MG at home in the league. Botafogo made it three games without defeat with the 2-0 home win over Coritiba.The 1-0 away win over Goias last week Thursday made it four league matches without defeat. The home defeat to Palmeiras ended the four-match unbeaten run. Botafogo bounced back from the defeat to Palmeiras at the first time of asking.

With the away win over Avai, Botafogo are ninth on the Brazilian Serie A table with 40 points from 30 games. They are currently in Copa Sudamericana group stage spot.
