BOTAFOGO SUFFER ANOTHER LEAGUE DEFEAT

 

Brazilian club Botafogo have suffered another league defeat after they were beaten in their trip to face Atletico Mineiro. Ahead of the game with Atletico Mineiro, Botafogo had lost their last three games in the Brazilian Serie A and they made it four successive defeats with the 2-1 loss to their opponents. Jefferson Savarino gave Atletico Mineiro the lead in the 17th minute and they were able to maintain that advantage until the end of the first half of the league game played at the Estadio Minerao in Belo Horizonte.


Brazilian striker Eduardo Sasha took just five second half minutes before doubling the tally for Atletico Mineiro.Botafogo defender Marcelo da ConceicaoBenevenutohalved the deficit for the visitors but the equalizer was elusive for him and his teammates until the end of the game. With the result, Atletico Mineiro made it three wins from the last five matches, while their guests Botafogo are without a win in their last four outings.

Since the goalless draw at Cuiaba in the second half of their last 16 second leg clash in the Brazilian Cup at the start of the month, Botafogo have lost four games including the latest one with Atletico Mineiroon Wednesday night. After the Cuiaba game in the Brazilian Cup, Botafogo were beaten 1-0 at Bahia in the league as their hosts picked up all the three points at stake.

The defeat to Bahia preceded the 2-1 loss to Bragantino at home. It was the same 2-1 scoreline in the penultimate league game at home to Fortaleza on Sunday. With the 2-1 win over Botafogo, Atletico Mineiro have opened a three-point gap over Flamengo at the top of the Brazilian Serie A table. They were level on points with Flamengo before the game. Flamengo will have the opportunity to close the gap on Atletico Mineiro when they host Atletico Paranense on Thursday in the continuation of matchday 23.
