BOTAFOGO WINLESS AWAY RUN CONTINUES

Botafogo have been largely poor away from home since the new Brazilian SerieB season started and that poor run continued when they faced CRB on Tuesday night. In what was a tenth round clash in the Brazilian Serie B this season, hosts CRB came from behind to beat Botafogo 2-1 at the Estadio Rei Pele in Maceio.

CRB goalkeeper Diogo Silva was impressive in the opening minutes of the encounter with Botafogo who are in the Brazilian Serie B after suffering relegation from the top division at the end of last season. Botafogo dominated the opening exchanges but could not score an early goal thanks to the heroics of the aforementioned Silva.

Rafael Navarro gave Botafogo a well deserved lead just before the half hour mark after he scored the rebound off the save made by Silva from a Felipe Ferreira shot. The goal from Navarro gave Botafogoa slim advantage at the interval.

In the quest to change the game, CRB made three changes at the start of the second half and they were back in the game within a minute of restart through Nicolas Careca. Botafogo returned to dominate possession but had nothing to show for it. CRB completed the turnaround 15 minutes from time when Botafogo goalkeeper Douglas Borges failed to deal with a corner kick as Martha powered home a second strike for CRB which turned out to be the winning goal.

The win over Botafogo took CRB into the top four with 17 points, while Botafogo are in ninth place with 12 points.
