Gremio lost their third match

Gremio lost their third match in four and it has raised the pressure on manager Luiz Felipe Scolari, who had just returned to the team after a forgettable spell with the national team.

Scolari has come under a lot of criticism from the club’s supporters, but Marcelo Oliveira says that he is confident that results will turn positive in the coming weeks. Given their quality in the squad, Gremio were expected to be in with a shout to win the title. As it is, the club will fail to make it to the next round if the league finishes right now. Gremio are 10th in the table after having taken just six points from the opening five matches.

The club has lost some crucial players like Marcelo Moreno recently, and Oliveira reckons that this is starting to take a toll on the team. Aside from losing strikers, the club also does not have a strong complement of defenders. Scolari is expected to get the team playing with a back three formation for the next match against Passo Fundo in order to compensate for the lack of top-quality defenders. There is hope for stopping this rot with a win against Passo Fundo. The opposition have not won in the last three matches and will be lacking in confidence just as Gremio.

“The issue is we take it in too. No one is happy with what is happening. We, the Scolari or even the fans. They [fans] are right to complain. The Scolari took his decision, could not accept what was happening . And we are closed to him. Go to collection and have to have. No one can understand that what is happening is normal. If the result is not happening, you have not imposed on ourselves as we should. We know that we owe and everyone is mad at it,” said Oliveira.
